Worship Yourself began as a five track demo, recorded in February 2001, after we had been together for about four months. Working in a small studio near Rochdale, we were using the most basic of equipment and got the whole thing recorded and mixed in three days. As soon as we had finished, copies of the demo were sent out to any and every music industry address we could find. A few weeks later we had a proposition from Cargo Records - record 3 more tracks and make it into a mini-album, and they would distrubute it for us. We set to work recording the tracks - two older songs, 'The More You Have...' and 'The Flowers Are Dead', as well as an early version of a song which would later make it onto our debut album proper, '...And They Obey'.
With all the recording done, it was time to get into production. We raised enough money to press 1000 copies of the album, and printed the sleeves ourselves. An entire day was spent indivudually folding each inlay card and placing it in each CD case. The final product of months of work was now tangible, we had something to get started with properly. Of the original run of albums, we must have given away about 100 copies to journalists and record companies and promoters, and it was this record that was the real turning point for us - we became more than just a school band. Of course, we were still at college at the time, and it was pretty good to see people reading copies of Kerrang! in the hallway, in which we had been given a 4/5 review..."vigour, depth, melodies and intelligence... Kinesis can't really go wrong.".
Since then, pretty much all of the copies have been sold. I've seen them go for upwards of £50 on auction websites. Quite ironic considering how we gave them away by the dozen when nobody was interested. Listening back, Worship Yourself sounds raw and honest, the sound of four kids who want to take on the world but can barely play their instuments, which is exactly what it is.
